Summary/Abstract: This article, based on case studies, follows the course of transformation processes in agricultural co-operatives in Slovakia. It pays attention to the diversification of economic models formed along production factors and looks at the formation of the course of the transformation and its economic models in relation to the human and social capital of the main actors (management, and an interestgroup). The author also gives an account of the conflicts inside the co- operative farms springing from conflicts of interests between groups and individuals (landowners and landusers) , paying heed to the position of the co- operatives in the local community, their ties or the relaxation there of with the locality. It poses the question of whether the transformation processes are limited by the cultural context and how the local models overlap with or counter balance the free market model.
