Summary/Abstract: This article provides a meticulous analysis of institutional framework behind the state intervention in the domain of housing tenancy relations in Europe during the period under review. Based on relevant sources and a systematic comparative approach the article sheds light on dynamics of development of the phenomenon compared between different countries and regions. A broader European viewpoint and the applied comparative perspectives help in identifying different patterns of institutional frameworks. Based on the nation-state data and analysis, it presents a typology of six consecutive developmental stages of state involvement in housing problems. Comparative perspectives on these policies will be facilitated by means of that typology.
