Summary/Abstract: The issue of innovation and competitiveness of Polish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should be considered in the context of training and human resources development. Therefore, there is a problem to what extent these two elements of human resources management are utilized in SMEs in shaping their innovation and competitiveness. The main objective of this work is to show the relationship between competences of employees and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises and their levels of innovation and competitiveness. Two basic methods were used for the implementation of this objective: literature review and quantitative research. Research was carried out in two groups of respondents: 1200 ordinary workers and 600 managers of SMEs.
