‘Irfān and aesthetics in the Neoplatonism of the Baghdad group of Abū Hayyān al-Tawhīdī

Summary/Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the thinking and texts of the aesthetic group of Baghdad scholars of the tenth to eleventh century, headed by Abū Hayyān al-Tawhīdī. Their definitions of thought, art and inspiration are set out, and the relationship between artistic form and Divine Unicity is clarified, given that the members of this group experienced artistic creation as the emanation of the soul and the perfection of nature.
