Summary/Abstract: The elections for the professors’ chairs in Romania, between wars were a very important preoccupation of the political class being seen as a guarantee of the quality of the academic education. To put into practice the German or French model was the main issue of the debate in that period of time. The solution chosen by the higher education law from 1912 proposed some ways for the elections inspired by the two systems, but also imposed, by the 81 article, an original method to choose the academic stuff. A professor was directly appointed, without examination, by the Ministry of the Instruction at the recommendation of the majority of the professors’ council. This was the solution even if there were more than one candidate. In practice, the ambiguity of these stipulations made contestable the elections of some professors and the rightness of the system of recruitment was doubtful. The University of Iassy knew about these debates and about the conflicts related to the system of the recruitment of the professors. In the early years between the two wars, The Law Faculty dealt with plenty of difficulties concerning the filling up of the vacant departments with professors desearving such mission. But, those days, the greatness of these try outs led to the beginning of divergent opinions among professors, among the Ministry of Instruction and the professors, some of them far from the academic field. In most cases, the interest of the group initiating the proposal of recommendation was a direct one. Their action was determined by a certain reason, the limiting of Cuza’s influence or banning of the professors Cantacuzino and Dragomirescu from leading the Law Faculty. Sustaining the belonging to a certain group was enabled by the political connections or by the nature of the personal relationships. The certainty of the short-lived success and the primordial taken decisions eased the alliance of the professors Alexandrescu, Cantacuzino and Dragomirescu for supporting of a candidate. This was also the reason why the long-lived alliances didn’t manage, compared to Cuza-Coroi-Tabacovici group where solid friendship and family relationships made the abandonment of the group almost impossible.
