Polish stereotype of „mother"

Summary/Abstract: The author attempts to create his own cognitive definition of the word „mother‟ on the basis of previously recreated stereotype of “mother” and its profiles in Polish language. He extracts the features of stereotypical “mother” by analyzing definitions in Polish language dictionaries, derivatives, metaphorical uses, usual combinations of words, phraseology, etymology, as well as surveys results, and finally specific types of texts (proverbs, Polish literature of the 19th century, sermons and folk songs). The article is concluded with remarks on reconstructing the stereotypes in general, including the stereotype of “mother”.
