Summary/Abstract: The present work highlights some historical aspects of three novels from the abundant literary production of the Mexican writer, Carlos Fuentes. The Mexican writer denies the possibility of historical progress: humanity lives in a perpetual present and repeats a series of ceremonial acts. This is the basic idea of the first analysed novel, A change of skin (1967) where the beliefs in a prehispanic world and the history of the 20th century coexist. Th e other work, Terra nostra (1985), evokes the Hispanic past: it tries to reconstruct the history of XVIth century Spain using the methods of the novel, and, as part of this history, also outlines the arrival of the Spanish on the American continent. The third novel, Christopher Unborn (1987), suggests an apocalyptical vision of the future of Mexico and it is also build on real facts: it recreates historical events.
