Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the ways of thinking in which today, and probably in the future, frontiers between Balkan countries arc being comprehend. Although based on a temporary wartime status quo, current disintegration of the international set up in Bosnia indicates both a crises of the international institutions and a crisis of the basic values of the liberal democracy — values on which, in principle, contemporary international order has been established. The article reproduces these values through Michael Kind's vision of the liberal nationalism. Its unconditional principles — self-determination, constitutional order and language-cultural concept of nation — can not lie implemented automatically. There are accumulated background layers and political temptations beyond the principles. They create an opposite intentions use — of violence, genetic understanding of nations. — through which leaders seek advantages for their nations. Those economic and military merits we witness in the history of Germany in the seventeenth century today seem inapplicable to the Balkans. Out of the current distribution of the Balkan territories there are yet unobserved "spaces" of business and commercial activities. These "spaces" arc complimentary distorted by the war and UN embargo. Whatever the war outcome, these are exactly the "spaces" that could provide arguments for a redistribution of the Balkan frontiers anew. Since Balkan nation and leader are lacking a common future (or at least an apprehension of it) will again seek arguments in the past. But in the past there are no commonly valid arguments; the history has already been irreversibly changed during the previous wave of self-determination of the Balkan peoples.
