Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to verify two hypotheses about changes in the structure of labor market: polarization and job-skill mismatch. The research uses the relative distribution and the measures of relative polarization – methods developed by Morris et al. [1994]. The analysis includes income from hired work or earnings. The micro-level data come from Polish Household Budget Surveys for years 1998-2009. The findings show that polarization was the pronounced profile of the changes in the income distribution. The movements of households from the middle to upper tail of the distribution, so-called “upgrading”, were more visible than downgrading or the shifts from the middle to the lower tail of the distribution.
