Summary/Abstract: Since the 1950s the scientists have tried various approaches on specific aspects of information economy. Through this article we intend to emphasize to what extent the European information economy is affecting the Romanian economy today. This article is structured in three parts. In the first part we define the economy of information and make a critical analysis of European economical strategy from the point of view of the new information economy. The critical analysis that we propose is made from the Knowledge Economy perspective. In the second part we intend to see if the Romanian economy has the characteristics of an economy of information. In the third part we try to answer to the question: is there potential for developing a European information economy in Romania?
