Summary/Abstract: This article provides an overall survey on fertility and its determinants in Romania after 1995. The empirical evidence presented in this paper supports the view that after the fall of the communism we register only five years of decline in fertility. After 1995 follows a very weak variation in fertility on the national level, but with significant differences between regions. Using a descriptive statistical analysis we emphasize the differences for fertility in these regions and we assume that the variation in fertility can be explained by demographic and economic variables. The results of the econometric model identify the principal determinants of the fertility variation in time and between Romanian regions after 1995.
