Summary/Abstract: The political is considered as a fundamental condition of human being and, in that sense, as defining an ultimate limit, beyond which human existence is inconceivable. The limits of the political are mobile ones, for both man’s being-in-the-world and the constitution of the political as co-being are defined in the changing terms of temporality. Therefore, the ultimate aim and meaning of the political, i.e. the general good, is problematic, can be repeatedly redefined. This is why the sphere of political life is the sphere of polemos, of unending political struggle, of conflicts, motivated by the idea of attaining a „just“ political peace. The problematic boundaries of the political sphere imply a refusal to think of the members of political society as things: reification would make the political meaningless.
