Summary/Abstract: This article is concentrated to the ciphering methods used by the Bulgarian revolutionaries in the period 1870-1872. The methods are divided into three groups: invisible inks; SKARI; and digital codes. The first method, however it quickly becomes obsolete, is the invisible ink method. Most widespread and most reliable is the usage of SKARI. Also are reviewed both preserved digital ciphers used by Vasil Levski. The author attempted to see the usage of the ciphers and their development. He also compares them to the methods used by other organizations. Some already known documents are deciphered, and others are published and deciphered for the first time.
