Summary/Abstract: Theater is a place of projection and creation of images, of “collective shadows” (J. Duvignaud), where dreams and nightmares take shape. In Raft of the Dead, the shock before the existing reality at the end of 20th Century (nuclear accident) awakes historical ghosts and apocalyptic fears of the future, in a drama which connects the grotesque and the sublime. This analysis proposes to identify, in this anti-utopia, a site of hell built with elements from science fiction and echoes of biblical myths, ancient Greek myths and the mythology present in the opera of Wagner.
