Summary/Abstract: The problem of secularization is one of the most widely examined and discussed issues in the contemporary development of sociology of religion. The scholars in the field agree that it represents the most important trend defining the religious change in modern societies, the most powerful tendency of the contemporary transformation of religious vitality and significance in the highly complex contemporary societies. A general conclusion about the influence of "modernity" on the process of secularization is that it is exercised and revealed several basic aspects: individualization, transformation, de-sac-ralization of the world pluralization, differentiation. Secularization is immanently released to "modernity". "Modernity" means ,,a movement from pre-determination toward choice" and conditions the general consensus of the secularization theory, according to which the world becomes progressively secularistic.
