Summary/Abstract: Private label development is a reality that can not be ignored and will continue to produce changes on the shelves. From simple product „mee to "own brands will become an independent brand. Local producers will have to accept fate and to muster the provision of own brands for retailers, otherwise bear the consequences of war with big arms. în Romania, private brands began to appear în 2003-2004. în just six years, they have gone some steps that în Western retail lasted for 40 years. Entry level have expanded rapidly to the medium and, more recently, premium, gradually covering all consumer segments and all product categories.
