Summary/Abstract: This paper examines this fascination and how two science fiction novels, Joe Haldeman's "The Forever War"and George Gaylord Simpson's "The Dechronization of Sam Magruder", use the metaphor of time travel to illustrate isolation and challenge American notions obout technology and individualism.
