Summary/Abstract: According to Didier Coste's theory of narrative economy, reaching silence is both logic and necessary. "Reading in the Dark" by Seamus Deane unrolls from silence to narrative communication and gets to post-narrative silence. The transformation bridging the two moments of silence evinces the difference between them.
