Summary/Abstract: Book Review: Španielsko a Slovensko: dve cesty k demokracii. (Slovakia and Spain: Two Paths to Democracy). By S. Szomolányi (ed.). Bratislava: Stimul 2002. One could say that Spain and Slovakia do not have so much in common. They differ in many aspects: Spain is approximately eight times larger than Slovakia, having many times higher population; its historical legacy is also quite different. Even though Samuel Huntington clusters Spain and Slovakia in the same wave of democratization, differences seem to prevail even when comparing Slovakia and Spain’s transition from undemocratic regime to democracy. Besides the timing - Spain’s transition started fourteen years before the Slovak transition - these two countries differ in their current status as well.
