Summary/Abstract: Filmmakers nowadays seem to make less and less new and interesting fairytales, myths and legends. They’d rather repeat the old ones bringing them more often than not up to date in more visual bloodcurdling and demonic versions. Though following most of the moments of the fairy action, directors would place these moments entirely in reality. The paper considers this bringing of the fairy stories up to date in two aspects: from the point of view of the story and from the visual one. The development of the story is more often a repetition of an old fairytale just in a new digital version and quite rarely a new film. Still, bringing the story up to date nowadays is often breaking the structure of the fairytale to show its various elements in other moments of the action. Bringing plotline up to date for contemporary children is using popular characters, who’d “live” the fairy story from their own point of view or bringing together characters, who’d never interacted. Children are the target audience of my study for they perceive, seek and share all the fairy stories, characters, kingdoms and lands in their purest form and genuinely believe in the unlimited reality of magic both in movies and in life.
