Summary/Abstract: The author begins by setting out background information on the life and educcation of Nerkez Smailagić, with particular reference to his specialist studies in modern political doctrines at the College of Political Studies in Paris and his appointment as lecturer on the History of Political Doctrines at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb. In addition, the author deals with Smailagić’s scienttific opus, comprising seven books, seventeen translated works and thirty-seven scholarly and specialist articles. Finally, the paper provides a brief assessment of Nerkez’s opus concerning Islam, and his cultural and civilizational works. After a long period of sterile, lifeless presentation of Islam, Smailagić returns with due dignity, in his two-volume anthology Klasična kultura islama (Classical Islamic Culture), to Islamic studies and to promoting their universality and multidimensionality.
