An Ethnomethodological View to the Historical Discourse

Summary/Abstract: The essay analyses the historical discourse as it is embodied into the textbook of history and unfolding in the framework of teaching history, from the perspective and by the research means of ethnome-thodology. Disarranging the normal course of the lesson let typical schemes of interpretation to be outlined, that the students' consciousness draws to solve the problem the historical knowledge turned out to be. Different ethnomethods are described, which the participants in the problematic social interaction (not only the pupils, but the experimenters as well) use in order to elucidate and to rationally re-establish the transparency of the situation. Diverse types of "historical knowledge" are outlined with regard to the degree to which the private historical experience of the puplis has been normalized by the historical narrative, together with the possible deviations from that narrative.
