Summary/Abstract: The text focuses on the approach of the majority nation towards minorities in case of Slovakia within Hungary (1867-1918) and Hungarian minority within independent Slovakia (since 1993). It examines the repercussions of the majority nation’s language policies and their influence on minorities’ national self-determination as well as the nationalization of their behavior. The text aims to provide evidence of the controversial language policies implemented in this region as well as to portrait their influence on Slovak-Hungarian relations, with particular focus on two above mentioned periods.
