Summary/Abstract: The article looks into some theoretical problems connected with the concept of implicature. It discusses the difficulties of creating a methodological framework – a test to check the implied meaning. The main focus is on the considerable power of the Cooperative Principle and the possibility of calculating an unlimited number of meanings including the semantic meaning of idiomatic expressions. The more general question of if it is possible to put limits to the pragmatic phenomena and how far semiosis can go is also tackled.
