“UNIVERSITY In Nature”: A Place For Learning About Sustainable Development

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the project ―University in Nature‖ by the University of Belgrade, which is being established on the territory of the Golija-Studenica Biosphere Reserve, Nature Park Golija, and air spa Ivanjica. The project should not be limited to the University of Belgrade, but should encompass other universities in Serbia by their inclusion either in this project or in similar projects. The University in Nature could provide a significant contribution to sustainable development of the area in which it will operate, but it should simultaneously provide the opportunity, on the one hand, for scientific study of various aspects of sustainable development and, on the other hand, for ―Education for Sustainable Development. The University in Nature should contribute to the modernization of work at the University of Belgrade and, hopefully, at other universities in Serbia. It fits into the modern tendency towards establishing socially engaged universities.
