Summary/Abstract: Outline of the structure of the Open Method of Coordination (OMC): its origin, characteristics, main advantages and disadvantages, presents an introduction to the considerations of more specific applications of the OMC - in the fields of employment, social inclusion, pensions, health and long-term care. European theoretical and practical efforts directed towards developing and adapting the OMC in different sectors and current experience in its application, constitute a framework for the considerations of the compliance of the Serbian social security system with the objectives of the OMC. This contribution to comparative analysis should provide an orientation about the extent to which the national social system fits into the European social and solidarity limits (and requirements).
