Emotional labour - a framework for the study of emotional regulation at work

Summary/Abstract: Emotional regulation at work has been studied mainly within the emotional labour paradigm. Traditionally defined as the work that requires inducing or suppressing feelings and emotions in order to maintain an appearance capable of facilitating in others the desired state of mind, emotional work has inspired a large number of sociologists and psychologists. In this paper we attempt to review the main findings regarding the dimensions of emotional work, its determinants, its consequences and the moderating factors.
