Summary/Abstract: This interview consists of six parts, each referring to a different thread of the theory of trauma: its associations with the literary theory; relation with respect to literarity; a peculiar ‘traumatic’ concept of timeness and its literary reflections; a connection between trauma and history; the art and testimony relationship; and, figured-out future studies on trauma as a discipline. A loyal Freud reader, Ms. Caruth reconstructs the history of trauma studies, tracing down their beginnings in 1990s, their literary and philosophical inspirations. She rebuts the opponents’ charges as well as problematises the mutual relations between literature, history and theory.
