Summary/Abstract: Aurel Ghitescu was well aware, even since his years of training as an actor, that his innate gifts, that is, his talent, had to be doubled by sustained efforts to develop and perform his role. In an interview, he said: “I've learnt that the stage requires, above all, devotion, love and sacrifices. In such circumstances, success comes naturally. Whoever thinks solely of success is not an artist – although, I have to admit, they may be a worthy actor.” Along the years, he gained a rich stage experience, which he gathered in a book. There, he skilfully discloses many stories which happened in the theatre, with his mates, and he tells of the emotions they experienced together onstage. His enthusiasm when writing his memoirs – O viaţă de om pe scenă şi altele (A Life Onstage and Other Things), still unpublished – is clear-cut evidence that he fulfilled his mission as a gifted artist. Aurel Ghitescu has broadened the perspectives of the Romanian theatre, by his rich activity in the cultural life of Iasi, by the unique moments which he created as an actor, as well as by his sustained teaching activity.
