Summary/Abstract: NATO enlargement to the East, to the Black Sea, became gradually by increasing geopolitical interest for the countries in the region. NATO enlargement was made possible after the fall of the Iron Curtain and was achieved despite Russian opposition. It considers that the Alliance is dangerously close to its borders, it loses influence areas and is caused military challenges. For these reasons NATO-Russia relationship has been marked by disagreements, political conflicts and bellicose statements.
