Summary/Abstract: The article contains the propositions concerning the division of Silesian dialect based on the geographically governed phonetic and phonological characteristics distinguishing those dialects. The division differs from previous perspectives. A few subdialect groups have been distinguished: I. Group of North Silesian dialects (called in Polish cieszyński, zaolziański, and jabłonkowski), and dialects of Silesian and Czech borderland. II. Group of Silesian and Małopolska dialects. III. Gliwice dialect. IV. Group of central-north Silesian dialect with central Silesian dialects (Głogów dialect and the dialect of Strzelce County) and North Silesian dialects (called in Polish niemodliński, opolski and dolnośląski respectively) among them.
