Following the Fortunes of the Olomouc Company F.J. Svodoba

Summary/Abstract: During the 1930s Olomouc was the centre of the Czechoslovak chocolate and sweets industry. Apart from a few dozens of small producers and manufacturers, there were also six factories that formed the pillars of this industry. The company J. F. Svoboda was one of them. In the area located in Pavlovičky, J. F. Svoboda produced sweets for over half a century. Even though the factory of František Jan Svoboda belonged to the foremost Olomouc enterprises, and its importance had exceeded the borders of the town and even the region, it is impossible to map its history thoroughly. Most of the written documents or images have been destroyed, and until today only fragments of documents and scanty memories of witnesses remain.
