Summary/Abstract: The individual method of social work was established in the 1930s by the organization of the female social advisors' service at the Municipality of Sofia. In the same time the case work methods were introduced in the curricula of the Women's Social School at the Bulgarian Women's Union influenced by the German model. Both the Municipality work and the education offered the possibilities for the professionalization of social work and its development as an academic social science.
