Summary/Abstract: Liberalism as an ideology has become insignificant in Central and Eastern European political life - the Polish journalist claims. No major party invokes liberal values, but in spite of the magic disappearance trick employed by right and left wing populist parties, the liberals still exist. And - as they say in Eastern Europe - they keep "liberalizing". The author tells us that "liberal" has become a swear word in Poland today. Populists accuse liberals of lacking patriotism, of squandering the national assets, of maintaining too close ties with foreign countries, and of degrading Polish political, cultural and spiritual life.
