Summary/Abstract: The growth of communicational technology by means of the Internet has irreversibly emerged in the field of tourism and asimilitated services, too, as interconnectiveness is one of the factors underlying globalization and an essential condition for competitiveness. The Internet is today not only a source of information, but also an environment for information traffic so that, but seems to comprise tourism economic agents, from small inns to large hotel networks or online booking companies that have created the GDS. This article aims at emphasizing the role of GDS, strategies regarding GDS development, the role of the Internet in tourist distribution as well as the premises for developing a new distribution system – the DMS.
