Summary/Abstract: The emergence and development of the print in the first half of the XIXth century sets the written culture of the South-East European space in a new and unique relationship with the political systems, generating strong interventions from authorities. Introduction of censorship, both at the political and ecclesiastical level, was the fastest control tool of the print. In this paper, we focus on how the political and geopolitical evolutions in the Balkans influenced the formation and expression of a civilization of printing in this space, and how the written culture determined the positioning of the political element.
