Summary/Abstract: The principal aim of the paper is to analyse the changes in the pension system of the Czech Republic and Hungary. The first part briefly describes the main characteristics of the reforms in these countries in the XX century, which consisted in the inclusion of capital element to the hitherto functioning public system. The second part is concerned with the areas in which after the crisis of 2007-2009 these countries implemented far reaching reforms. The Czech Republic improved its system implementing a funded pension pillar, whereas Hungary closed and integrated it to the public system.
