Diversity within United States’ Culture and Politics

Summary/Abstract: This essay examines the Progressive view of diversity which is the driving ideology for much of the United States’ approaches to immigration. After a discussion of the Progressive shift from the “melting pot” to the “mosaic” model of US national identity, a sketch of the intellectual history of Progressivism is offered. This is followed by a critique of the entitlement- thinking spawned by progressive diversity and some suggestive closing remarks on the ways in which understanding the nature of persons is an alternative to Progressive diversity.
