Ecoinnovations in municipal economy as a tool towards the policy of sustainable development – a case study of Bielsko-Biała city

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an issue of ecoinnovations in municipal economy. Ecological innovations are anlysed in the context of sustainable development. The subject is presented under conditions of Polish municipalities. The article analysis experience and practices undertaken in the capital of the Silesia Beskid Mountains. Bielsko-Biała has had a great success record in terms of ecoinnovations in municipal economy and generally in local sustainable development. It is one of the leaders of changes in this field among other Polish municipalities. The currently undertaken works are mostly directed towards energy efficiency. Nevertheless local policy shows the understanding for the need of integration of economic, social and environmental conditions. It also includes a crucial role of local community. Local development in Bielsko-Biała deserves dissemination and promotion of good practices.
