Summary/Abstract: A difficult situation caused by the global crisis forces local governments to search for new sources of financing their activity and investments. One of the directions is to combine public and private resources and create joint venture of public and private sectors in a publicprivate partnership formula (PPP). PPP is mostly understood as an idea of cooperation between private partners and local governments. During a global crisis we can observe a phenomenon of turning to locality. In local policy it is manifested in the higher interest in local market and in the concentration on local resources. It strengthens the process of decentralization and governance. What is more, the pro-economical solutions in municipal economy leads to higher efficiency and lower negative pressure on the environment. In certain circumstances, all these activities paradoxically can make a global crisis an ally of local sustainable development. One of the instruments supporting this process is public-private partnership.
