Summary/Abstract: Human being – dichotomic reality. A testimony against heterodox anthropological conceptions. The man is the embodiment of God’s creation according to the Orthodox teaching; he is also the” face” of God’s glory, although he bears the wounds of sin (St. Gregory of Nyssa). The man is a dichotomical reality, being created of two elements, two sides of the same entity, body and soul. This dichotomy-the body and soul problem - represents a sensible subject because of the numerous controversies. This is the reason why it is necessary that the Orthodox doctrine specifications to be strongly pointed out. Anthropology represents a field where the heterodox conceptions\ideas are widely present. These vary from the tri-chotomist ideas to the naturalist setting where man is seen as a mere evolved animal, reaching its highest point in the secular context where the man is seen as a „superman” and he substitutes God ending with oriental pagan vision\conception where the man (atman) identifies himself in an impersonal way-with the god he emanated from (brahman). The theories regarding the origin of body and soul are important to be discussed and with their help but also in comparison to then we can confess the doctrinal revealed truth of the Church.
