Globalization: Implications for Economic Theory and for the TRansition of Serbian Economy

Summary/Abstract: Globalization is a fundamental challenge for the modern economic science. Most influental schools of econonomic thought differently conceive this pheomenon and its possible outcomes. An overview of these different approaches is presented in the paper. Transition of the Serbian economy is also analyzed in the context of globalization and some obstacles to this process are emphasized. It is suggested that in the prevailing circumstances, the hypotheses of the institutional-evolutionary economics can be much more succesfully applied to the transition process than those of the mainstream economics. Therefore, much more attention should be paid to to this school of economic thought in formulating optimal transition strategy.
