Summary/Abstract: Speech situations often become appropriate contexts of speaking rules. The participants of speech situations constitute their most important part. All participants have their roles. In the course of communication their interrelationship becomes a paramount importance since it helps disclose their social roles and possible conflicts arousing from those roles as well as the impact of social status etc. The paper attempts to investigate the use of diminutives in situations differing in communicative purposes and involving different participants.
