Summary/Abstract: The insurrection of Dionysus the Philosopher (or Skylosophe) of 1611 is, with regard to its results and implications, one of the most important liberation movements of the seventeenth century in all the Western Balkans. Unfortunately, Albanian historiography has not occupied itself at all, whereas in the last century this insurrection has become an object of study for Greek historiography.
