Summary/Abstract: “The Story of Voivode Dracula” is a unique creation of the Russian art and culture in the 15th century. The research studies the “Russian version” of the image of the Romanian ruler Dracula, revealing his individuality through such epithets as “cruel but wise”, “wit”, “sly”, “devilish, and satanic”. The uniqueness of this Russian text ensues from the natural incorporation of this literary monument into the medieval Russian culture through the issue of ruler and state system, dominating the mentality of the Russian writers from this period. The author aims to demonstrate that Dracula is a personification of Death and a border creature, interacting both with life and death, as on folklore level as well as on Christian medieval perceptions level.
