Summary/Abstract: This paper is concerned with the research of the grammatical category of the verb aspect and its character. The theoretical framework, which is necessary for the study of the verb aspect, has been set by means of the survey of different approaches to the verb aspect and aspectuality, that is, approaches adopted by different authors: Allen (1966), Vendler (1967), Lyons (1977), Smith (1983), Comrie (976), Dahl (1985) and Bache (1985). The goal of setting this theoretical framework has been the contrastive analysis of the nature of the verb aspect category in the representatives of Slavonic and Indo-Iranian languages, Bosnian and Persian respectively. These two languages are a very good illustration of the verb aspect, since the majority of linguists believe that only in these languages there is a close corresondence between the aspect meanings and morphological tools used to express them. Although the verb aspect is an independent grammatical category, it must be examined within the broader category of aspectuality in both languages, since aspect, most frequently, is in interaction with aktionsart and verb tense.
