Summary/Abstract: The paper brings a comparative analysis of folk tales about Diva Grabovčeva. Tales that are analyzed can be found in Ivan Aralica’s novel Graditelj svratišta, Ćiro Truhelka’s narrative Djevojački grob and contemporary folk narration. The topic of these tales is the tragic fate of a Christian girl in Bosnia under Turkish rule that lasted from the year 1463 to 1878 and the relationship between the ruling Muslims and the subject Christians. Diva Grabovčeva perishes because of her beauty and fidelity to her people and Christian faith. The tales are based on a historic event, but they present it in different ways with a variable degree of reliability. The degree depends on author’s intention and the genre of the literary work we find tales in. Thus, Aralica, who wrote a novel, had the greatest liberty interpreting the tale. However, Truhelka, with his scientific background, sticks more to the facts he found during his field study. Contemporary folk narration is characterized by its brevity and economy. The stress is on the message rather than on details. The paper defines and classifies the tales and presents the history of families Grabovac and Kopčić.
