Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of narrating on the Internet from the perspective of ethnology and folkloristics. Narrating on the Internet has become a very important form of verbal exchange which supplements oral face-to-face communication in everyday life. The article offers some reflections on this new kind of mediated narration and on its theoretical foundations; an overview over the forms, contents, and functions of this mediated narration is presented. Some of the conclusions are that narration on the Internet is a new kind of media communication which in some respects resembles oral communication; forms and rules that are quite new and specific have developed; Internet narration complies with the criteria of ‘folkloric communication’.
