Summary/Abstract: Theatricality as sine qua non Dimension in Ion D. Sîrbu’s Fiction. The paper focuses on the literary and dramatic works of Ion D. Sîrbu, one of the most important Romanian writers of the 20th Century, discussing the inverted relationship between literarity and theatricality in his plays and children’s novels. The essay tries to show that, for Sîrbu, the transferring of theatrical elements in his epic works and of literary elements in his plays is not an accident, but part of an elaborated strategy to preserve unaltered the essence of theatre in the troubled times of the communist dictatorship.
