Summary/Abstract: In this article, we approach some problems regarding the history of the territory from the left of the Danube, starting from a book published two years ago by Stelian Brezeanu: Identităţi şi solidarităţi medievale. Controverse istorice, Bucharest, 2002, 388 pages (Medieval Identities and Solidarities. Historical Controversies). From among all the “controversies” analyzed by the author, we (re)discuss only the following problems: Aurelianus’s retreat from Dacia province, the confusion made between “Gets” and “Goths” in ancient sources and the ambiguity of the notion “the frontier of the Lower Danube”. The frontier of the Lower Danube was considered from seven perspectives, each of them corresponding to a sub-chapter (the Danube is approached as a geographical unit, as a political, military, juridical, economical, cultural and religious frontier).
